Started in 2012 as a partnership of the Gathering Place and the Brazoria County Health Department, the goals of BCAAP are to provide information about dementia and to encourage early detection.
Each fall, the group partners with the Brazoria County Library System and senior independent facilities to provide memory screenings. For 7 years, BCAAP has sponsored the largest community-based screenings in the United States.
Annual activities include Caregiver Conferences and Resource Fairs, and Recognition and Response training for First Responders hosted by the Sheriff’s Office.
Dale Libby, CEO of the Gathering Place, presents the 2020 Brazoria County Dementia Webinar. The keynote speaker, Dr. Margaret Apostol, MD, presented "Why Nutrition and Lifestyle is the Foundation for Cognitive Health." A YouTube video by Dr. Mark Hyman, “Why Fixing the Gut is Key to Healing Chronic Disease” was also shown. In addition to these two topics, there were four short videos from our local Community Partners, explaining the care giving services that they provide.
